Temporary solution for windows
« on: December 01, 2012, 10:54:54 PM »
Would something like 1lb mass loaded vinyl sheet duct taped over window openings offer any significant improvement in sound blocking through windows as a quick temporary measure?  Would any old duct tape hold it in place?  Two windows are each approx 38 h x 52  w inches which have dual pane windows. There are heavy curtains over them as well(but that just helps reduce reflections in the room not blocking sound).

Longer term, I was looking at going for magnetic or gasket window inserts with optical acrylic rather then glass.

It would definitely help, but don't expect miracle results.  It would be equivalent to putting up a sheet of 1/4" drywall.  Not gonna give you complete quiet, but it may knock it down 10 dB over glass alone...

Gorilla Tape would hold a lot better than generic duct tape.
