Soundproofing Laundry Rooms in Condo Building
« on: November 06, 2001, 08:02:59 PM »
Our HOA Board would like to improve the soundproofing of the laundry rooms in our condominium building.  Each of our 3 floors has a laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers.  The rooms' floors are linoleum over a concrete base.
We would like some type of product that will minimize the noise and vibration that can be heard within the hallways and some of the nearby units.
I have reviewed your site and found the information on two products: Super SoundProofing Mats and Isolation Pads.  Which would be best for our use?  Do we use both together?  Do we use such products only under the washers, or dryers as well?
Thank you

This would be a straight forward job of attaching sound absorbent mat (Use something like 1" or thicker), to the walls and door and using the Floormat and/or Flooring under the machines.  The pads don't seem to do much for the vibration, just use extra Floormat under the feet of the machines.

Thank you for the response.  Our HOA Board is not open to the idea of modifying/covering the walls or doors to the laundry rooms.  Would we still obtain any sound/vibration reducing benefits by just placing the floormats under the machines?

Sure, the more mat, the greater reduction.
