Footfall noise from flat next to me
« on: October 16, 2013, 03:38:52 PM »
Hi
I m so desperately looking for an answer so I hope someone can help me with this:
I read many threads what to do footfall noise coming from above but almost none  if it is coming from the flat next to me.
So the house I  live in is having  concrete structure (floor +pillars) and walls are mad of bricks with various thickness.
I have a common wall with my neighbor. I did try to soundproof the wall, (adding massive layer of a soundproof material - paper structure filled with sand-  plus used green glue and drywall a s covering layer). I do not have too much space so I used a rubber of 0.11 inch and plastic nail  to fix it, I know its not perfect but I did not have too many options here .
Unfortunately It did nothing to stop the footfall noise coming the flat next to me. I do have a feeling like a dinosaur is walking in that flat.
I think my neighbor has a tiled floor while I have a wooden layer on top of the concrete (on paper I do have some isolation foil ..etc in between).

So my question would what should I do to get rid (or at least limit) the footfall noise coming from my dear neighbor.?
Will a bit heavier carpet help? Or should I have a new floor with some better soundproofing beneath?
Every help is really really appreciated.
thank you in advance.

the two units share the same subfloor so your not going to stop the impact going under your wall.
The best approach would be to soundproof at the source but since you most likely can not the only option left would be to put an underlayment beneath your carpet and padding...
here is the link to the product you should use.

it should be installed from wall to wall and sealed at the walls and field seams prior to padding and carpet installation.
