Soundproofing apartment against outside noise
« on: October 15, 2013, 12:47:11 PM »
My apartment building is near a mosque and as you may already know when the Moslems pray they like to use loudspeakers. And I mean LOUD. As I live in an apartment I am not allowed to make any changes to the outside facade. Our corner unit has windows in the bedrooms and it could get really noisy. We are expecting a baby soon and are trying to find a way to cancel this noise to ensure good sleep for the baby. What kind of solution or products can you suggest? Preferably one that wont involve a lot of construction and wont break the wallet. I attach a pic of one of the bedrooms with the blinds drawn. I wonder if those white noise products really work. Opinions? Thank you!

white noise alone will do very little but in conjunction with one of our window solutions you should achieve a good reduction.

Thank you Randy. Unfortunately i dont live anywhere near you so it will take me more effort to procure similar stuff like yours. Any other product or technology you would recommend? Thanks

Block the window off with something very heavy..the heaviest sheet you can find. Make sure the current window seals are good and seal the new sheet 2" or more away from the window and seal it to the walls...
Wont look great but it will get you a reduction.

Yeah I saw online there are some soundproofing curtains out there, though they are not sealed to the wall like you said. Thanks again!
