Window- Renting- Steady Traffic Noise
« on: February 27, 2014, 10:20:09 PM »
Hello,

I am currently experiencing a steady stream of traffic in my bedroom window.

-Constant passing of cars (with the occasional bus or loud base)
-There are air gaps.
-Rental Manager said no to replacing of current window.

SIZE: Width 46 inches. Height 45 1/2. Depth 4 inches.

Since I am renting, there is no way I am putting in the soundproof window with the quotes i received were from $900 to $1800 from various sound proofing rental companies.

Storm Window: I was thinking about installing a "storm window" inside. I would have about a 3 inch air gap left. I could also place some type of foam within the two windows at night for extra sound reduction.

Acrylic Plastic: I already went to several home improvement stores to look at Acrylic pieces and a lot of places want to sell me a huge sheet and refuse to cut to size. :(  I am going in circles.

I called around to window stores within my area and window installers, and everyone is not getting what I am trying to describe  and keep saying they do not do this type of work.

Suggestions anyone? This would be greatly appreciated!!!! :)

I am trying to post 2 pictures and keep getting an error saying I can only post UP TO 4 pictures. So I was only able to post one picture. The window sill is 4 inches.

Since your dealing with these type of hurdles how about doing a window plug, it will work just as good as the magneseal system.

That is the easy way out! :) that is why I came to this forum. To try to get expert help on a solution other than one that blocks light out during the day:)

well with your circumstances it might be the only option. If you can not create the dead air space between your current window and another medium such as acrylic or laminated glass you will not see viable reductions for cars and the occasional bus. which also means that the original window must be sealed air tight (no leaks) even if that means replacing old seals.
The last thing we want to do is mislead you thinking something will work and it not.
I'm actually surprised you can find a local plastic supplier that will sell and cut the acrylic for you.
