Concrete Block 1978 built town home noise issues
« on: November 10, 2014, 09:08:35 PM »
We live in a end unit 1978 town house that is concrete block construction. Our unit is one level & our neighbor's is 2 levels. Our 2 bedrooms and 2 baths share the common wall. The neighbors side of the common wall is his living room, dining room, half bath and stairs. His speakers are set in his ceiling of the first floor and the trusses run towards our unit. He likes to entertain in his backyard and have his front and back doors open. We really hear the noise when this happens.

I know our common wall has drywall, wood furring strips, and very little insulation on each side of the concrete block common wall. I believe our windows are original. What should be our steps in addressing the noise coming through? Will working on the common wall be enough? Should we be concerned about any sound that could be coming in through our attic area?

Since the speakers are installed in their ceiling the sound/vibration can travel any where it wants to.
This will be a sizable project and is best discussed over the phone due to the sheer volume of detail that will need to be addressed.

You can contact me direct to discuss a game plan.

Hello Randy, my neighbor traveled through the holidays...so we procrastinated on finding a solution for the sound....the one thing did do was fill the cavities to the concrete block walls on the exterior of home. They are coming back Monday to finish the party wall.

Ok them make sure everything they do is air tight sealed, you can not overkill the sealing of the wall.
Call me when you have some time and lets discuss.
