I just ruined my house.....
« on: December 17, 2014, 10:22:15 PM »
I live next to a marsh that borders a busy road. When the leaves fall off the trees that border the property, the traffic noise is loud. It never bothered me when I was inside......until I re-sided my house with cedar shingles!

Before the project, I had thick, striated cedar shingles (from the 1950's) with Homasote underneath and under that was tar paper. The house was fully insulated with blown-in cellulose 2 years ago. The builder hung the new cedar shingles with tyvek underneath. I spoke with the building inspector who told me that this was an acceptable method, but I didn't think about the effect this would have on the sound.

Now, I can't stand being in the rooms on that side of the house during rush hour. It always sounds like a window is open.

What can I do? I'm looking for 2 suggestions:
1. The dining room isn't fully sided yet and I'd like to have the builder do something different on the outside to make this room quieter.

2, Is there any option for the rooms that are already sided. I am willing to throw some money at this if it will help me return to my previous peaceful existence.

Kicking myself.....

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the builder stripped off the homasote and the tar paper!

if you want a low profile option use our mass loaded vinyl 2lb.

feel free to call us direct if you have any questions or concerns
