Restaurant dining room - knocking down in-room noise
« on: March 02, 2015, 07:26:09 PM »
Hi,

In our restaurant we have an "annex" dining room, but since it's relatively small (20' x 25' ??), when it's filled with people dining, the conversation noise level is pretty high. This is mostly because of the small volume of the space, and the hard walls, floor and ceiling.

This is the room I'm talking about, and I'm turning the camera around clockwise.
1-PenthouseDiningRoom   (you might get a 3 photo slide show)
2-PenthouseDiningRoom
3-PenthouseDiningRoom

I take care of the building, so I'm guessing what's possible and what they'll go for . . .

1. I'm thinking of putting some panels on the two big walls that face each other, in photos 2 & 3 - is that the best idea ?

2. What materials to use ?

3. Any way I can make it attractive, like cover the panels with fabric ?

(4. I don't think they're going to want a carpet or rug, although I know that would help a lot.)

If you could offer any advice, that would really be appreciated.

Best,

Kent

Kent,

I need the height of the room to calculate sabin timing in order to determine the minimum amount of coverage you will need to install in the room just to notice a reduction.
you can use our cotton fiber panels (not on website) and build your own frame that you can cover with fabric or you can buy these panels shown in the link below.

Please make sure your room dimensions are correct or my quantity of panels will be wrong.

Please advise,

Thanks a lot Randy.

So the dimensions of that main dining area room are :    9'-4"H  x 15'-6"  x  21'

Also there is a small alcove at the side  :    9'-4"H   x  3'  x  10'

That space is open through a counter opening to a small kitchen, and a hall which leads to two bedrooms (it's a rented apartment, for which the living room is converted to a dining room.)

For the cotton fiber panels, could you describe those in a nutshell ? - like their dimensions, etc. We might be interested in that.

Thanks again !

Kent,

Based on the dimensions provided you will need to cover 200 sqft to notice a change in the room.
to reach RT60 you will need 625 sqft of coverage.
Normally when I do rooms like this I start at 200 then add until I feel I have reached a good reduction, normally you do not have to go to the full coverage value of 625.

E-mail me direct and I will send you the data on the panels.
