Sound proofing aluminium windows
« on: June 02, 2015, 09:18:42 AM »

Hi There
I am looking to sound proof my windows which have aluminium frames. From my reading on the forum I need to have a still air space and have that space as much as possible, so from the two photos attached, I have 100mm or 4 inches of space across my window sill, so I was thinking of having acrylic 3/8" at the end of the Windows sill which will give me around 4 inches of space. However if you look at the second image, you will see that the aluminium frame has vents in it, so should I do one of the following 1) add a second piece of acrylic 3/8" right next to the frame so I still have close to 4 inches to the other side of the sill or 2) should I fill the vents with something to seal them? and if so what should I seal them with.

I guess I want to make sure I am on the correct track??

The other question I have is, as I have four inches of window sill, should I have an additional piece of acrylic in the middle of the 4 inches, so basically I would have two air spaces? would this help with the sound proofing efficiency?

Ok, the weep holes would need to be sealed.
Just use one single piece of 3/8" acrylic with the greatest air gap..Do not add a third leaf.
