Sound proofing wooden windows train outside
« on: January 04, 2016, 07:43:29 AM »

Hi,

So i have double glazed windows already however i have a train outside that is a bit noisy that runs past its two stories up an apartment building so hard to block the noise from the outside.

Whats the least expensive / intrusive solution to reduce the noise that is not too difficult to install, note i would still like to open the windows if that was possible as it is a bedroom (city living).

Is the "Mass Loaded Vinyl Opaque or Clear Vinyl material" the best for this and will it reduce enough my only concern is how bad it might look.

Thanks.

I understand aesthetics are important, so I guess the best way to solve this is to understand the end goal.

Mass / Gap / Mass is what you are trying to achieve.

The heavier the existing window is, plus the greatest air space achieved, followed by another form of mass will achieve the greatest reduction.

Look at recording studio windows or commercial airplanes..

For us it is either a second window installed with the greatest space or our magnaseal system.
