Living across from a 24 hour trucking facility
« on: February 29, 2016, 08:27:30 PM »
Hi all!
I live in a gorgeous apartment in Bushwick, Brooklyn. It's full of windows, and I even have rent stabilization. There's just one problem. I live across from a garbage transfer facility. There are trucks 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. I've gotten used to much of this, but I'm still having some problems. I hope you can help me figure out some solutions to mitigate!

My biggest problem is bass from the engines outside. I live on the second floor (the first floor is manufacturing), and the bass from idling trucks and 18 wheelers coming down the street rings my eardrums and causes vibrations throughout the apartment. I know some of this is the windows, though I don't know a solution for this. I also think it could be hurt by the fact that it's a high-ceilinged loft with hardwood floors & sheetrock, so there are reverberation issues.

Do you have any suggestions? I'm considering purchasing these curtains: http://www.rosebrand.com/product1210/32-oz-Magic-Velour-FR.aspx
And, making a bunch of these acoustic panels with the thickest foam I can: https://www.google.com/search?q=making+sound+panels&oq=making+sound+panels&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i61.6334j0j4&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=91&ie=UTF-8

I'm also looking for solutions to put underneath rugs (rugs don't seem to be enough) -- if you have any recommendations.

Thanks all!
Teg

The curtains and panels will help absorb the sound bouncing in your unit which will give you perception of some reduction. In order to get better reduction you would need to add mass to the walls and floor and also do a window treatment like our magnaseal or window plug systems.

Feel free to contact me direct.
