Hi there, I just found this site and am so glad I did. My wife and I are expecting our first child in September and we live in a semidetached home in Toronto. Our bedroom has a party wall with the neighbours and I was wondering what the most effective way to soundproof the wall would be. Our neighbours are noisy, plain and simple. We'd really like to at least get that portion of our home insulated as best we can before the baby comes.
I know that there is a half inch of drywall with pink insulation behind it and then what looks like plywood backer board behind that. I had to open a small hole during a previous renovation so I know that much. Whats the best approach here? Should I take the wall down and reinsulate the joist cavities with safe n sound, or should I just build on top of the existing drywall with new layers of sheetrock and green glue.
I'm up for anything, just trying to get things as quiet as possible!
Thanks in advance,
Chris
