R1 Channel or Clips?
« on: December 29, 2016, 02:41:07 PM »
Are there any comparisons between using R1 Channel vs the clip system?  I know thats a wide open topic but looking at the cost of the clip system vs R1 channel, it comes down to cost per Decibel.

Markbett,

Here is a link to give you a comparison between the 2 systems.

I will say the with RC you are more likely to have a short in the system during installation.
Unless you are very careful.

I guess the next question would be how much do you gain (or lose) using the clips?  anyone have readings of both?  Assuming both construction methods are the same other than the RC vs. clips.

gain or lose as in what ceiling height?

rc = 1/2" not including sheet rock
clips and channel= 1 3/8" not including sheet rock.

See comparison link below for noise reduction values
