Double glass window water vs air
« on: April 12, 2017, 03:19:46 PM »

If the gap in a double glazed window contained water instead of air, would it better for sound proofing or worse?

this would be worse, speed of sound thru air is 1129fps , water is 4700fps

but in reality the gap size is what will dictate some of the value of the overall system.

Mass / gap / mass is the full system value.

1/4" laminated glass/ 1" gap" / 1/4" laminated glass = STC 37
same                   /  2" gap /  same                    = STC 43
                             3" gap                               = STC 47
and by increasing the mass of the glass will also increase the value of reduction.
