old house walls v new house walls
« on: January 26, 2002, 05:16:21 AM »
hello.
i am thinking of moving into a mid terrace built circa 1888.the walls are stone or brick and about 9 inches thick with no cavity air space obviously.is this type of wall any good at blocking neighbour noise or are more modern houses with cavity walls better?.
i used to live in a old terrace years ago and seem to remember the walls offered virtually no sound proofing at all, this surprised me as they were quite thick.
so,are old houses any good for a quite life?
thanks for any help.
