Help! Need soundproof strips for apartment door
« on: April 11, 2002, 10:32:13 PM »
Hello All:
While researching methods for soundproofing an apartment door,
I found a web site that mentioned a product by "sound guard"
similar to weather stripping, that can be attached along the door's
edge(s).  The site claimed that this product can be ordered at Home Depot,
however I went to two different stores, and neither one was of any help.  One
refused to search on the computer, and the other store did a search but
could not find the product.
Does anyone know of any available products
that can be used in this manner?  I'm looking for something that can be easily applied
such as the stripping mentioned -- something that I can attach along the
bottom of the door and perimeter of the door, to keep outdoor noises out, and also to protect
my privacy, since my home office is by the door, and anyone out in the hallway, can
hear me when I talk on the phone.
Thanks for all help.

about our transom seal:  (The part that should seal the door bottom against sound andthat fits on the bottom of the door). We received a lot of questions about what kind to use and how to install them, so we now make available the correct type of seal that will not only help seal out sound but improve the doors thermal rating. A seal is essential to properly soundproof a door. Our seal is a rubber loop, modified by us with sealed ends for added performance in creating a dead air space in the loop.  We'll cut this to an exact fit for your door if you'll give us the measurement of the width of the door. You will also receive the proper screws to mount it to your door, depending on whether it's metal or wood.  Only a screwdriver and a few minutes is needed to install this very much needed attachment.
