HAY - ASAP, cheap solution, or no?
« on: July 09, 2002, 01:11:19 AM »
okay.. we need to soundproof something, VERY SOON, and we have NO money.
they are windows, and we have enough hay.  apparaently it works well but isnt practical?
if we stack hay bales, and cover an entire wall (with many windows), will that help block a punk band playing (3 floors up, windows facing back of townhouses).
this is a pure temporary solution, needed by friday, so i KNOW that it isnt the best, but would it WORK?
please please please please plesae respond!!!

Perhaps one of the people in the congregation is a roofing contractor and can donate some rolled roofing material to your soundproofing cause. This would be much more practical than the hay bales, however, the hay bales will work.
When it comes to soundproofing, more is always better, and as a general rule, you need some sort of mass material for effective soundproofing (eg. Mass loaded vinyl, lead foil/sheeting, and closed cell foam). These materials are proven soundproofing agents, and usually solve noise issues permanently. Hope this helps you Ramiro.
