NOISE FROM PLANES & HVAC SYSTEM
« on: December 19, 2002, 10:53:31 PM »
We live near the airport, and we can hear the planes constantly in our bedroom.  Also, our HVAC system is underneath our bedroom in the crawl space, and constantly hear that noise through our hardwood floors.  My husband and I are not very handy, and need help.

Lani,
First of all, you'll need to determine if the airport sounds are coming through the windows or through the walls. Depending on which is letting the sound pass, will determine the type of soundproofing you will need to do.
As far as the HVAC unit in the crawl space, those sounds can be squelched by treating the floors of your bedroom with SSP floormat, and then you would carpet and pad over that. This would add 26 STC points to your existing floor, and should block out the majority of the HVAC noise.
Lani, with a few more details on the bedroom, I will be much better equipped to give you the best methods for soundproofing from the airport noise. Thanks for your posting.
