Do insert "magnetic" windows really work?
« on: January 02, 2003, 01:26:29 AM »
Sorry to sound like a sceptic but do these things
really work to reduce noise. I live on a very busy
street with constant traffic noise. Sounds too good
to be true.
I'd like to hear from some homeowners who have gotten real results.
Also, how can I tell if I need to do more than "soundproof" my windows and large patio door? My
exterior walls seem to be only 6" thick and I suspect that they need to insulated as well. If so,
what products work best, do I need to build a "double wall", and what are the approximate costs?
Wish I could sell and move but I just got here...
Seems more trouble and $$ than it is worth. I now
resort to keeping a fan and radio on louder than
I would want to try to drown out the noise!

We've sold and installed many magnetic interior storm windows and they do work as advertised.  There are several different suppliers out there and the quality varies by supplier.  For an inexpensive way to stop noise and lower utility bills they cannot be beat.
