Noisy Hardwood Flooring Above
« on: March 01, 2003, 06:43:52 PM »
The upstairs neighbors have replaced carpeting in their living room with hardwood flooring.  Our living rooms are the same size and reside directly above and below the other. The noise level (approximate IIC rating of 54) is within the local building codes, but it is very uncomfortable, especially the impact noise we now hear.  The floor consists of the following layers:

   Laminate flooring (hardwood)
   1/8" fiber pad
   7/8" gypcrete (concrete)
   5/8" plywood
   2x10's on 16" centers
   1/2" resilient metal runners
   5/8" drywall
Is there anything we can do to reduce the noise above ?
