Soundproofing part of the floor of a room?
« on: March 15, 2003, 08:16:17 PM »
We're buying a condo and thinking of placing a stereo system in the breakfast area. It currently has ceramic tile flooring. We don't think uninstalling the tiles is an option. If we were to soundproof the floor, we have several questions:
1. Should we soundproof the whole floor of the breakfast area and the kitchen (adjacent and not totally separate from the breakfast nook)?
2. Or can we just lay the MLV underneath the stereo/speakers/subwoofer area covering an area of 3' X 10" (or maybe just the breakfast nook)?
3. Can we just glue the MLV on top of the floor and cover it with carpet (without the padding)?
4. The speakers/subwoofer have spikes; do those help in reducing sound transmission to unit below us?
Many thanks! This is a great website.
