noisy bedroom wall with door
« on: March 17, 2003, 05:50:53 PM »
hi there,
i share a 2-bdrm apt, and we want to soundproof our bedroom walls for a little more privacy--the only problem is that there is a door on the wall that joins the bedrooms, and we can't cover over it permanently because the door to the hall for one of the rooms is too small to move furniture in and out. would soundproofing mat do it? suggestions?
thanks!

Megan,
First of all you want to make sure the the door between the  bedrooms is a solid core door, and not one of the cheaper interior hollow core doors. Hollow core doors are nearly impossible to soundproof.
Once you have determined that your door is a solid core door, you could use some of the SSP tape to line the inside of the door jab (where the door meets the jab) this would seal out sound, much like a weather stripping seals from the elements. Next you will want to make sure there are no light leaks at the bottom of the door. if there are, then a transome seal is in order.
Megan, you can read more about doors on the website, or simply click on the link below. Thanks for the post.
