Hi,

I am wondering what to do?

I have noisy neighbors and I just cant stand it anymore.   My neighbors all have tile floors. they snore , drag furniture and play tv's too loud, and I hear really strange noises eminating from the bathrooms.

I have a lot of questions about how to get started.

I am not even sure if I should do this myself or hire someone. Cost will be a big factor and I am wondering how much money I will need to tackle this .

I want so much to soundproof my comon walls and ceiling.  Do I float ceilings in bathrooms, halls, and  closets.  What area's need coverage? How do I measure the areas that need the coverage so I now how much material I will need?  How thick should I get the vynyl?  What other Items will I need?

I am desperate.  HELP!!!!!!!!!

Kathy

Kathy,

Now don't panic, I am here to help. A lot of the costs depend on just how much area you need to soundproof, and how much soundproofing you can afford to do. I am not made of money, and you are most likely not either. So I will deal with your questions with your budget in mind.
Floating the ceiling is the most effective method for quelling the affects of foot fall noises (impact noise). This operation would most likely take a little help, such as a drywall contractor or a good drywaller/carpenter.
If you can go back to the website and read about the use and application of the sound clips or resilient channels (RC-1), you will learn most of what is needed to do perform these projects.
Click on one of the links below for more information on these products and methods:

These links will definitely help you to make a wise decision, and you will never again be in the dark about soundproofing.
Thanks Kathy, and enjoy reading!

Kathy, I can't help you but want you to know you are not alone. My husband and I bought a townhouse last September and we have a 17 month old son. Well our neighbors on one side are extremely loud, have surround sound in their bedroom and it can be heard throughout that whole wall including in my sons room and downstairs in our living room. Sometimes our home sounds like a movie theatre or a dance club. I am so sick over it and we are planning on selling our place.

Kathy,

In order to deaden the noise you will have to open the ceil. lowing the ceiling will not help much. The sound must be dead at the source. I.e like placing a pillow in a drum to deaden the noise. I have tried lowing my ceiling, does not work...it must be opened and the padding foam, place closest to the ceiling to stop the noise BEFORE IT PENETRATES YOUR CEILING AND WALLS
se

;)
