what material should I use to block noise...
« on: May 20, 2003, 10:49:05 PM »

hi Pat,
I just moved into an high rise building. There's constant air conditioner and engine machine noise outside during the night.

The windows in my apartment are huge, and I don't want to block the light, what should I use to effectively reduce the noise coming through window?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

thanks,
Daisy

Daisy,

My name is Bob, I am hoping by Pat you were referring to me.
If the windows are truly the problem, then perhaps some of the acoustical curtains would work for you. They would be hung from a 15 year guaranteed traverse curtain rod. You would want them to hang loosely, and you'll want them to over lap the window frame by at least 1 foot.
Daisy, if you need further assistance, please give me a call at one of the numbers listed below. Thanks for the post.

hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply.
I want to buy some curtain to have a try. Can you recommend which kind is the most effective in soundproofing? Also will a plug more effective than curtain? Will plug be applied to big windows?

Here's the size of my window (It's wide rather than long):
W: 94"
L:  61"

I looked at the webpage, most of the curtain are very long, but not so wide. For example: the size for this curtain Ruffled- Buff color, Stock# 0996A is 74"(W) *96"(L). Can I change it's width and length easily?

thanks,
Daisy

Daisy,

Thank you for your curtain order. They are already shipped to you and they should help greatly in eliminating much of the noise eminating from the A/C compressor in your building. Thanks again for using the Super Soundproofing Co. for all of your Soundproofing needs.
