Furnace IN apartment living room!
« on: June 11, 2003, 08:59:10 PM »
I'm going to be renovating an apartment that has it's gas furnace inside a stud-and-drywall enclosure right IN the living room!  It has a simple plywood access door in the front, with an intake vent.  Inside there's about 8"-10" clearance around the unit.  Can you suggest an acoustical treatment for the interior of the enclosure that wouldn't be a fire hazard?  What about the door?

I'm going to have the unit serviced, but right now it's pretty noisy.  It doesn't seem to vibrate too much though.  Can acoustical treatment be applied around the blower of the furnace itself?  (By a qualified HVAC person, of course!)

Thanks, Arkay
