Title: Sound-limiting master bedroom / Loft
Post by: David Eiland on March 02, 2006, 09:31:34 PM
The master bedroom in our 3-story townhouse is on the second floor, but it is a loft that opens to the living room below. We are trying to find a way to limit the amount of noise coming into our bedroom, without completely eliminating the sunlight that we receive from the very large windows in the living room.

Because much of our house is natural wood, I was thinking of retractable / sliding wood shutters, but I'm not sure how much noise the shutters would keep out.

Any suggestions other than acoustic drapes, windows, or drywall.

Well, 1/2" laminated glass would do the trick, but it's over $30/sq. ft.  Shutters would be worthless - don't waste your money.  If you're looking for something retractable, don't expect it to work too well.  You need something you can seal or close up tight.
