Title: Glass Block Windows
Post by: yesmansb on June 14, 2007, 07:37:31 PM
I have a concrete wall garage with 2 windows. As part of my soundproofing efforts, I'm thinking of getting Glass Block Windows, as I've seen them on many music studios I've been to. Is that the best sound insulator or is there something better?

If you make sure to grout the joints and seal them up well, glass block works okay, but it's hardly 'the best'.  Two thick pieces of glass with a large airspace can be called 'best', and if you can make provisions for absorptive material inside the window cavity, that's even better.  The windows should be inoperable and sealed well, of course.

Yes, glass block is an excellent choice as it has good sound blocking qualities, but is pretty expensive.  I've found it removed and used very cheaply on the local Craigslist.  See
