Title: Soundproofing windows with shutters installed inframe
Post by: bigwindows on August 12, 2007, 03:59:32 AM
Has anyone tried to install plexiglas to soundproof a window with a shutter already installed around (inframe not overlay) the window frame?  I would have to do a recessed type of install I think. Any ideas to help me out?  I live next to a freeway - 2 miles and I am tired of the freeway noise.  How would I seal around the plexiglas since it would have to be inside the framing since the shutter is already there (where the steel framing would go if doing a mounted over the face of the frame type).  I eventually would need to do this to 2 windows.  One is roughly 70 in X 60 inches and the other is roughly 60 in X 60 in.

thanks in advance for your time!!

You could mount the 3/8" acrylic in a "surface mount".  Simply turn the "L" channel around to fit both the inside window frame and interior (wall) side.  In this application you will need to add a ledge or screws to support the weight of the acrylic.
