Title: So many choices...interior window comparison for DIY
Post by: savvymom on November 27, 2007, 06:58:26 PM
Curious if any one has a cost:performance (decibel reduction) comparison on the following DIY interior window options:
Magnetseal, Magnetite, Optixshield, Windotherm, Windowsaver, Energysavr? I don't know if it is worth while to go with a supplier who provides the acrylic or buy it myself.

I doubt you'll be able to find that information.  Any data released by the manufacturers would be exaggerations or outright lies (they don't like paying for tests that illustrate the deficiencies of their products) and performance would vary greatly by the airspace, sealing and other installation details specific to each window opening.

If you have some tools and are handy, I'd recommend buying the acrylic yourself.  You will definitely save money and can get it as thick as you want.

By all means, obtain the acrylic from a Plastics Retailer near you.  Be sure to get 2-3 quotes as prices always vary depending on what suppliers have on hand.  You can obtain steel framing channel and self-adhesive magnetic tape at
