Title: Finishing Basement under wood floor
Post by: mxstanl on July 06, 2008, 06:59:25 PM
I am finishing my basement.  The floor above the basement is a finished oak wood floor.  When you walk on it with dress shoes or heels, the noise is really loud.  In the basement, I want to eliminate as much of that noise as possible.  I am sure someone has dealt with this issue, can you suggest some cost effective solutions?  Thanks, Mark

Insulation in the joist cavities and a resiliently hung ceiling, with 2 layers of drywall.  That's about the best you can do, unless you want to tear up the oak floor to get some underlayment underneath to dampen the footfall noise.

Adding Green Glue between the 2 layers of drywall will improve this system.
