Title: Lumber/Material Question
Post by: MrBill on June 12, 2009, 12:57:19 PM
Hello- NB to soundproofing/sound deadening. This forum is an excellent resource.

I'm attempting to build a "hanging" room in a room. This means I'm going to hang sound deadening walls within a garage that I can take down. My idea is to take 8x8 boards (2 walls, 1 ceiling) that will box in a corner. On the inside of the boards, I'll put 5 1/2" cotton batting to deaden the sound. The batting is the easy part, my question is:

What material is recommended to use for the boards. MDF doesn't look like a great idea. Looking for something light and somewhat strong to hang and take down.

Thanks!

Actually, thinking about it, should I use cotton batting or soundproofing mats on the inside of the hanging "walls"? Just trying to control the amount of sound going out of the garage while playing drums (knowing stopping everything is futile).

Thoughts?
Thx-

Mr.Bill
Here is a link for our portable panels.

This might be an easier solution.

'Something light' won't block sound worth a crap.  You'll be wasting your money.
