Title: Methods to reduce dart board noise on shared wall
Post by: nonplus on December 19, 2009, 01:03:12 AM
Hi,

I have a question that is similar to what I read in this thread:

http://supersoundproofing.com/forum/index.php/topic,2600.0.html

However, unlike that poster, I'm primarily interested in reducing the transfer through the wall.

Here's the best description I can give of my setup:

The wall is drywall. I have a small metal mounting bracket screwed into the wall through a corkboard (I use this to protect the wall. I'm considering spending more money on an actual backboard, but this is what I have for now). The dartboard has a particle board back with a screw in it which fits into the mounting bracket. Three metal leaf springs are attached to the back of the board which rest against the corkboard.

Thank you in advance.

Best thing I can think of for you.

4ea. SSP-1 clips
2ea. - 2' DWFC (7/8" drywall furring channel)
2lf. 1/4" SSP Mat w/psa
attach clips and channel to wall, attach 1/4" foam to back of board, attach board to channel (screws cannot touch wall or clips). Attach dart board to back board.
you can also attach a layer of foam to the back of the dart board to reduce it more.

Okay, back from the holidays :)

Thanks for the reply. Can I verify with you that I picked out all the items you were suggesting?

4x http://shop3.mailordercentral.com/supersoundproofing/prodinfo.asp?number=09-IS
DWFC - http://shop3.mailordercentral.com/supersoundproofing/searchprods.asp  ?
1x http://shop3.mailordercentral.com/supersoundproofing/prodinfo.asp?number=09-42720-PSA

I couldn't find 2' DWFC (7/8"). But are the items I linked correct?

You will have to order a 5' section and cut it yourself

Thanks.

The corkboard the dartboard is mounted through probably can't support it on its own (the current screw goes through the corkboard into the wall, and the wall is doing most of the support).

Do you think I would be able to mount the DWFC in front of the corkboard (such as a single horizontal bar of it), then mount the dartboard onto the center of that?

The corkboard is mostly just there to protect the wall a little.

It would be best to directly mount the clips to the wall, directly to a stud for each clip... you can get away with just using 1 bar, however I dont know how stable the board would be.

I don't know where the studs are exactly, but from your replies I think I have an understanding of how the ideal setup should be. So I'll work with that and try to deviate as little as possible. Thanks.
