Title: MLV alone VS MLV w/foam backing?
Post by: Zoilla on April 11, 2010, 10:23:51 PM
Hi!  I'm planning on stapling MLV on a shared wall to reduce sound transmission coming from my neighbor's apartment to my own, mostly conversation, barking dog, and television noise.  I'm wondering if A) 1/4" thick MLV is automatically better than 1/8" thick MLV, and B) Is MLV with an attached closed or open cell foam backing better than just MLV alone?  Also, what if I attached the MLV to the wall with Green Glue instead of or along with staples?  Would that have any benefit?

Thanks!

Our composite of MLV w/ 1/4" closed cell foam is our best product and could be used in lieu of 2 layers of standard MLV but you would still need to add the final layer of drywall.
For direct apply approach on existing drywall would be 1 or 2 layers of MLV w/PSA directly to the wall then followed by a new layer of 5/8" drywall with green glue sandwiched in between.
