Title: Newbie questions on sound proofing my bedroom window
Post by: IlikePeaceQuiet on June 10, 2012, 07:30:07 AM
A relative of mine who doesn't like me is now in the habit of knocking on my 1st floor bedroom window as he walks by to go into our house. He's doing this when he thinks I'm alseep in order to wake me up. He's an angry domineering jerk/bully which I'm sure you can guess. He is knocking quite loud and it woke me up today. I want to purchase some sound proofing material to put into the window when I know he's going to be coming around so that the sound of his knock is muffled and I am not awoken. When he's not going to be coming around I would like to be able to put the soundproofing into my closet. If securing the soundproofing to the window means it has to stay up permanently, so be it. The window is about 19-20 inches wide and maybe 55-60 inches tall and its slightly inset into the wall by a few inches.

I don't know what type of soundproofing I should purchase or how to install it or anything. Any suggestions and guidance would be much appreciated.

I also wanted to add that if there was a way to make the sound proofing appear to be a certain color (like the light brown cloth that is behind the blinds on that window) that would be desirable because  I don't really want him to notice what I've done since that may make him do something else instead which would defeat the purpose of the soundproofing.

I am planning to put the soundproofing behind the blinds (so they are visible from outside) and in front of the curtains.

And I wanted to mention that I live in an apartment and can't modify or replace the window at all. So I was thinking of using some type of acoustic foam maybe unless there was a better option.

All you can really do is make a window plug...

and the reality is that he is impacting the structure so it will still be heard through walls and window frame itself...
