Title: Dental Compressor and vacuum room
Post by: Dentist on September 03, 2012, 10:52:15 AM
Hi,
I'm planing the construction of a new dental office in a highrise building in Manhattan. Concrete floor and tight spaces.
i need a 4' x 24" space to stack a vacuum pump and compressor in. I can design the room to be a few inches bigger to accommodate any soundproofing needed.
The adjacent rooms will be occupied by employees, and patients. I'd like to build this room so that if you are standing right behind the door to compressor room, you can't her a hum. Total soundproofing, not simply diminishing  and dampening of he sound to a lower hum. Ideally, i want absence of sound coming out of this room.
Is this even possible? or is it wishful thinking?
I have the specs of the equipment that will be in this room, listed below:
Compressor: http://www.airtechniques.com/products/airstar-50.html
Vacuum Pump: 2 x 1.5 HP motors

if it is possible to sound prro the room, how do you do it?

No such thing as 100% soundproof. We can always use mass loaded vinyl to create good sound blocking. What will be the most important part will be making sure we decouple all equipment from the structure itself, this sound path we can not beat without decoupled equipment.
Call me when you get a few minutes to discuss.
