Title: Tapping / Knocking noise behind
Post by: djbabylon on February 24, 2014, 03:34:22 AM
I just moved into a fairly new condo (10 years old). My sleep at night has been interrupted by an intermittent tapping / knocking noise behind the wall of my bedroom. It happens day and night with more intensity at night, whether or not I use the facets or shower. I recorded a sound sample https://soundcloud.com/problemsound/tapping-noise-behind-wall (https://soundcloud.com/problemsound/tapping-noise-behind-wall). I've heard it may be condensation in the the pipes, water hammer, perhaps a seasonal thing?

What do you think the problem is, and how should I sound proof it? Do I need to crack open the wall? My super says there's nothing he can do.. so I came to this forum. Thanks for any advice!

I've never heard it this bad, but before you tearing into wall make sure you drain and clean out the sediment in bottom of the water tank. I have learned this in the past and have found it some times is the root cause to the problem.
