Title: soundproofing for air conditioner condensate pump
Post by: bobc on September 28, 2015, 10:41:49 PM
Had a new 3 ton A/C unit installed in a small closet where the old one had been installed.  The new condensate pump is installed below the unit (not in closet) on a slab very close to the return air vent.  When the pan is full and the pump starts, it makes a loud (to me) whine which lasts for 30-45 seconds, then a gurgling sound as water is pumped outside.  The A/C business owner said he can't find a smaller pump to place inside the closet which would eliminate the noise of the pump startup.  I think I can solve the gurgling sound issue by straightening out the flex tubing that carries the water outside.  What can I use to quieten this pump?  Pump dimensions are 5 1/2"W, 8 1/2"L, 5"H.  Any help, suggestions, would certainly be appreciated.  Thanks a lot.       Bobc

As long as the pump is not running all the time you can use Mass loaded vinyl to wrap the pump.
