Title: Soundproofing arched windows
Post by: Eaj on November 12, 2015, 02:48:34 AM
Hello,

I'm looking forward to soundproofing my bedroom from the rumbling noise of a nearby restaurant exhaust and HVAC system that runs 17 hours each day.  We have arched bay windows.  Can you suggest a method for using the Magnetseal framing and L-shaped metal trim around the arch? We will be using 3/8" acrylic panels and a flush mount.

Thanks in advance!

I do not think you can maintain the complete seal with an arch on a flush mount method. You would have to do recessed and "V" notch the leg that faces the room to make the arch and maintain the complete seal.

Sorry to hear that Randy.  Perhaps I'll look into a Velcro method.  That do you think?

There might be another way, if you run some flat stock at the top to make the magnetic seal this could work also since you are doing the flush mount we could push the acrylic a few inches above the arch.

Thanks Randy.  I like your idea.  I am trying to find a source for the flat stock.  The
bay window is a typical one for a mansard Victorian, 64" x 33", flanked by 64" x 17".
I suppose we could try snip some from some thick sheeting.  Or can you suggest
a source?  Thanks for working with me on this.

try steel banding for strapping building materials to a pallet...go to a local building material company.

We've completed several projects with Arches.. If you still need someone to speak with, you're welcome to call us. We can have a consultant go over your project and explain the installation process if you'd like.
