Title: new hardwood floor underlayment
Post by: margo on July 02, 2002, 12:02:41 AM
I am in the process of laying a new hardwood floor and would like to control 'footfall' noise from floor to floor.  We had thought about using a layer of 1/2 homasote over the existing level 3/4" plywood subfloor to achieve separation.  I read on the homasote website that they recommend adding a layer of plywood above the homasote before laying the new wood floor.  Is this necessary?  We need to keep the total floor thickness at or under 1 1/4" [1/2 homasote + 3/4" hardwood strips]/  Is there another product we could use?
