Title: which soundproof doors would you guys recommend?
Post by: gugy on February 28, 2007, 05:33:19 PM
I am look to change my front door for a soundproof door.
I just don't know which kind to get and brand.
Does anybody can give me any recommendations?

I live 40 feet from a busy street.

Thanks!

Even a solid-core, sealed, fire-rated door only scores around 25 STC.  This is a lot better than 'normal' doors, but the optimal is if you could frame up 2 doors in an 'airlock' type deal - a noise vestibule.  Sometimes hard to find the space to spare, though...

wow,
that's disappointing.
I am not crazy of doors on top of doors and windows on top of windows. That's why I gave up on soundproofwindows.com.
It's hard. I guess I'll sell my house. :(

Anyway, I appreciate your feedback.

Sell the house.  A lot of these products are for slight noise issues more than anything.  Any real sound proofing/noise reduction is $$$$ and these salespeople are not afraid to charge you.

A MDF door (Medium Density Fiberboard) is inexpensive and has good soundblocking qualities, too.  Get the thickest possible with no recessed panelings.  (It reduces the effective thickness of the door).
