Noise from Above

We are starting a business and a salon exists upstairs from us.  Women walk around on a hard-wood floor with heels and boots all day long.  The noise is terrible.  Our local home improvement store person said that for a commercial application, MDF on the ceiling would be the most sound-proofing and the least costly.  We had considered a drop celing, but my experience with them in the past provided not nearly enough sound proofing.  So when we got the advise to use the MDF, it "sounded" (no pun intended) like a great solution.  Your opinion please.  Response needed ASAP as we are expecting the MDF delivery Tuesday and would like to cancel if it's no good!  Thanks so much!
