Blue Board and Veneer Plaster
« on: November 06, 2005, 05:46:21 AM »
I'm getting excessive noise from my neighbors above me in a co-op building.  I'm contemplating on installing directly over my existing plaster ceiling  5/8 blueboard gypsum sheetrock covered with a layer of veneer plaster.  I was told by the contractor that the veneer plaster is extremely hard and will reduce the noise transmission from upstairs noticably. He also said the installation of plaster over the blue board will make sound from my side bounce back down due to its hardness.   Is the contractor correct?  Appreciate any feedback on this as I'm desperate to reduce the amount of noise I'm getting.  However, don't want to rip down my existing ceiling.
