Remove vibrations from AC unit on the roof
« on: December 28, 2005, 04:26:10 PM »
I have the following problem:
I leave in mid-rise condo apartment building on the top floor. Our AC/Heat Pump units are sitting on the roof on the wooden bench (constructed from 4x4 wood) which in turn just sits on the tar roof. There are no pads or anything between units, bench and the roof (yeah, I know, good job, but that was not me who chose bottom-cheap contractors, and neighbours who did leave below and do not care about my problem...). Units are very low-end cheapo. Now it is my headache as I have low frequency vibration resonate throughout my apartment. What can I do to at least reduce that noise? Vibration Pads? Mat under the bench? Mat + Pads?...
I appreciate any helpful suggestions :-)

Regards.
Peter.

You'll need to lift up the corners of the unit and slip some vibration pads underneath.  Depending on the weight of the unit and the "footprint" you would use an appropriate pad.

A selection of pads is at  http://www.soundproofing.org/infopages/vibrationpads.htm
The cork and ribbed neoprene work best for this application.
