Alternatives to Magnetite
« on: August 29, 2009, 01:38:03 AM »

I bought a house that came with interior storm windows that are very similar to what Magnetite sells. I want to change the color, and would prefer to avoid painting. I got a sample of Magnetite's product, but it was fairly different from what I already have (mostly that all the parts are a bit smaller), and would require quite a bit of work to replace with Magnetite (painting, possibly new plexiglas, etc.). Are there alternatives out there that are similar? I really want something just like Magnetite but with slightly larger components.

We carry the magnatite in 1/4" trim now, sold by the foot call to order. Not in kit form and no dividers are available.
Or you can switch to our magnaseal system that will hold 3/8" acrylic.

Dear George,

When I got invovled with Magnetite  12 years ago there were two different sections in use.  A commercial section and a residential section.  Perhaps your home has the commercial clip which is slightly larger and you recieved a sample of the residential clip?  They should look similar except for size and the thickness of acryilc they hold.

In the US you could try contacting the guys that run the DIY site and ask the questions They may be able to send you a picture of their samples for ease of comparison.

In Australia we also had a competitor called Wintite who also operated in Canada, not sure about the US.  Their extrusion was larger and more square rather than curved.

I hope this helps
